Insights

Insights is the analytics area in Desk: dashboards that show how your business is doing across revenue, invoices, usage, wallet balances, customers and growth. This page shows where to find each dashboard and explains the rules every tile follows. The pages below it describe each dashboard tile by tile, with the formula behind every number.

Where to find Insights

In Desk, open Insights in the left-hand navigation. It has four pages: Overview, Details, Growth and Ask. Details has five tabs: Revenue, Invoices, UsageMeters, UsageWallets and Customers.

The dashboards

PageThe question it answers
OverviewHow much did we bill, how many customers are we billing, and what is overdue?
Details: RevenueWhere does revenue come from (recurring, usage, one-off, per customer, per product), and what is already scheduled?
Details: InvoicesHow much of what we invoiced is paid, pending or overdue, and how old are the unpaid invoices?
Details: UsageMetersHow many usage events arrive, per meter and per customer?
Details: UsageWalletsWhat is a customer’s credit balance, and how fast is it being used?
Details: CustomersHow is one customer doing: revenue, projection, open balance and invoices?
GrowthHow is recurring revenue moving (new, expansion, contraction, churn), and how well do we retain customers and revenue?
AskAnything the fixed dashboards don’t answer: ask a question in plain language and get a chart or table back.

The metric glossary lists every metric on one page.

How the numbers are calculated

Every dashboard follows the same rules. When a tile deviates from them, its description says so.

Billed revenue counts final invoices

Revenue tiles count final invoices only: invoices that are finalised, numbered and issued. They leave out draft, open, void and future invoices, unless a tile is explicitly about them (such as the invoice status breakdown or future revenue). For the meaning of each status, see Invoice lifecycle.

  • Credit notes are final invoices with a negative total, so they reduce revenue in the period they belong to.
  • Empty invoices are never counted.
  • Future invoices are invoices Solvimon has already generated for upcoming billing periods of active subscriptions. They only count in future revenue, the status breakdowns and Active customers on Overview.

Tax

Tiles built from invoice totals include tax: billed revenue, total invoiced, paid, pending, overdue and outstanding amounts. Tiles built from invoice lines exclude tax: revenue split by type, customer or product, future revenue, ARR, NRR and every metric on Growth. Each tile description states which one it uses.

Currency

Insights shows all amounts in your platform’s reporting currency, which you set in Desk under Settings → Platform, in the Reporting currency field. It converts invoices in another currency with the average exchange rate of the invoice’s month for that currency pair. Invoices dated in a month that has no rate yet, such as future invoices, use the most recent rate. Growth converts each invoice at the rate of its invoice date. The differences between these methods are small, but they are why converted totals can differ slightly from a sum you calculate yourself.

Usage events and wallet credits are not money and are never converted.

Dates

Each tile uses one of these dates. The tile descriptions say which.

DateWhat it isTypical use
Invoice dateThe day the invoice was issued”This month” figures, month-on-month comparisons, invoices per month
Billing period monthThe month in which the invoice’s billing period starts. Invoices without a billing period, such as one-off invoices, use the invoice date.Revenue per month on Overview, Details: Revenue and Details: Customers
Due dateThe day payment is dueOverdue, pending and AR aging
Service periodThe start and end date of each invoice lineMRR on Growth, which spreads each line over the days it covers
Event timestampThe timestamp on the usage eventDetails: UsageMeters

The difference matters when you bill in arrears. An invoice issued on 1 November for October usage has an invoice date in November and a billing period month of October, so it lands in November on an invoice-date chart and in October on a billing-period chart. The same holds for catch-up invoices: an invoice issued in March for January lands in January on billing-period charts.

Data freshness

Insights shows invoice, usage and wallet changes within about five minutes. It recalculates growth metrics and the NRR tile on Details: Revenue every hour.

Filters

Each dashboard has its own filters at the top of the page. Not every tile responds to every filter: tiles that always show “this month” or “the last 12 months” ignore the date filter. The dashboard pages list the filters each tile responds to.

Access

Insights only ever queries your own platform’s data. Where Desk embeds a dashboard for a single customer, every tile shows that customer’s data only.

Why doesn’t a number match what I see elsewhere?

Check these in order:

  1. Status. Revenue tiles count final invoices only. The invoice list in Desk also shows draft, open and void invoices.
  2. Date. Check whether the tile uses the invoice date or the billing period month.
  3. Tax. Invoice-total tiles include tax; line-based tiles exclude it.
  4. Currency. Insights converts everything to your reporting currency; invoices and reports show the invoice currency.
  5. Payment status. Paid, pending and overdue figures only work when payments are synchronised to Solvimon and invoices are marked as paid.
  6. Timing. A change reaches Insights within about five minutes, and Growth within an hour.

If a difference remains, contact support with the tile name, the filters you used and an invoice you expected to see.
